Hi. I’m Sarah. I live and grow Aroids in Adelaide, Australia. I started growing houseplants in general, but it was my first Philodendron, a simple heart leaf (P. hederaceum), that got me started on Aroids. Not long after, I saw the velvety leaves of a P. Micans for the first time, and there was no turning back for me.
Velvet Leaves, started as a way of keeping track of the plants I have and the plants I dream of adding to my collection. It has now evolved into a collection of information that I have collected, especially in the form of profiles on different Aroids. It is also a way to share my experiments and projects.
I grow my plants both indoors and in my Greenhouse. I work alongside my partner in crime, Molly the cat. I love to propagate new plants to share, swap and sell, to help pay for my plant addiction. I would love to find a way to make my plants a career, but we will see.
I live with a chronic illness and this site has been a way for me to stay involved in my passion for Aroids, especially on days where I have been unwell. I have had ample time to research plants and topics related, so why not write about my findings.
